The northeast is comprised of states like Manipur, Assam, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Sikkim. Each state has its unique food, culture, and tradition. Along with that northeast India is famous for offering various adventurous activities like mountaineering, rafting, trekking, and kayaking. Northeast India is an amazing place when it comes to food as well. It offers varieties of foods at affordable prices you won’t find anywhere in India. Northeast has some of the best views of India and people tend to become more spiritual when visiting such places. 

  1. Try local cuisines:

Trying northeastern cuisines should be mandatory on your bucket list. From Assamese thali to Chak-hao kheerd. Thali is a common dish all over India but trying an Assamese thali is something that has to be done. Thali is a large plate with a huge pile of rice in the middle and the sides, you will find various

Chutneys, curries, vegetables, and dessert. You can have loaves of bread and chapatis too! You can have so many things in a thali and too pocket friendly. 2. River Rafting in Siang

Siang River is one of the popular attractions to visit and it offers various adventures for adventure lovers. The scenery from the river has raw natural beauty and has a lot of local people living near it. Siang River is near Pagin, the local hilly residential area which has beautiful scenery. The best time to visit is from March to October and for adventure lovers, there is also the Himalayan mountaineering institute aka HMI where you can take various adventure courses. The choppy flow of the river will make your heart beat faster and your adrenaline rush. Rafting at such places gives some people immense confidence to overcome their fears and obstacles.

3. Attend the Hornbill Festival

It is also called ‘Festivals of Festivals’. Hornbill is an annual cultural fest of Nagaland which is of 10 days. It presents the rich and beautiful culture of Nagaland by showing various dances, traditional music, local cuisine, etc. The Festival starts on the 1st of December and is celebrated by celebrated in Nagaland to encourage the preservation and protect the richness of Nagaland’s culture. It was first created by the State Tourism and Art & Culture Departments and then later supported by Union Government. It was even conducted in a virtual platform during the covid-19 pandemic on the 1st of December 2019.

4. Kayaking in Dawki’s Umngot River

Kayaking is a fun and adventurous activity that people from all age groups can enjoy and it’s a great thing to do in Dawki’s Umngot river the best for kayaking is from February to September. The river is located at a distance of 1km from the main market and one can also see the Bangladesh border nearby. The water of the Umgot river is so clear that one can directly see the marine life of the river while Kayaking. During the month of March-April, there is boat racing also happens in the river which attracts a lot of tourists. The river is surrounded by hills which makes the view mesmerizing during the daytime. The place is usually crowded with tourists.

5. Enjoy India’s first and only Glass Skywalk

The Sikkim skywalk is the first-ever skywalk in India. From the skywalk, you can view the 135- feet tall Chenrezing statue, the fourth tallest buddha statue which makes it the perfect place for sightseeing. The skywalk also allows the tourist to the Teesta river. The ticket costs Rs 50 and is opened from 8 am to 5 pm and is located at a distance of 2.5 km from Pelling. The best time to visit is from March to October. The Skywalk is not recommended for weak-hearted people because it is located at a good height and is on the slope of the northern Himalayan mountains.

6. Waterfalls in Cherrapunjee

Cheerapunji now known as Sohra is located in Meghalaya and is known as the wettest place on the earth. The most beautiful waterfall in Cherrapunjee includes Nohakalikai falls, Nohsngithiang Falls, Kynrem Falls, Dainthlen Falls, Wah Kaba Falls, Wakaba Falls, and Rainbow Falls. The view at these falls is mesmerizing and every fall has its uniqueness. The best time to visit is from 9 am to 5 pm. The waterfalls are surrounded by greenery and a beautiful view of the mountains. You can just simply sit there and enjoy the view of the beautiful mountains and the peace near the flowing water.

7. Kaziranga National Park

Kaziranga national park is one of the finest national parks in the world and is home to the most giant one-horned rhinos in the world. It is located in the state of Assam and is one of the finest national parks in the world. Kaziranga is famous for saving the one-horned rhino from the verge of extinction.  The park was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985. 

The park also has several other endangered species including the Gangetic dolphin,  Asian elephants, Bengal tigers, sloth bears, and many migratory birds. A trip to Kaziranga is a must for all wildlife lovers. November to April is the best time to visit Kaziranga National Park. 

Kaziranga Park is usually closed from 01 May to 31 Oct every year for visitors and November to April is the best time to visit Kaziranga National Park.

8. Tea field in Assam

The tea fields are located in the beautiful hills of Assam and are very famous all over India. The tea gardens usually do have tea shops nearby so that you can try organic, pesticide, and chemical-free tea and there are different varieties of the tea. You can also interact with the local people there and try the local attires and even get clicked wearing those tribal costumes. Walking in such tea gardens proves to be peaceful. You must visit there in the daytime to view the beautiful and mesmerizing scenery. You also buy these tea bags for gifting and as these are the specialty of Assam.

9.  Tawang Monastery

Tawang Monastery is one of the best places to visit when traveling to North Eastern India. It is at a height of 10,000 feet in Arunachal Pradesh. From the monastery, you can the beautiful surroundings. The monastery has about 450 monks living there and its located in Cona, Tawang. You can also view the Tawang river from the monastery. The best time to visit the valley is from April to October. You can take the bus from the main city to reach the monastery. The place has almost 850 sculptures. 

10. Gorichen Peak 

It is at a height of 6,500 meters above sea level and is considered one of the best places to visit in north India. It is the best place for adventure lovers and will give a thrilling experience. The beautiful and peaceful view is worth climbing the mountain. It is located between Tawang and West Kameng districts in Tawang. The best time to climb is in the summer. You can also enjoy camping, rock climbing, and trekking here.

By air-  Tezpur Airport is the nearest airport. You can take a flight to Tezpur airport. 

By railways- You can take the train to Rangapara Railway Station in Tawang. From there you can board a taxi to the hills.

By road- You can take a taxi to Gorichen mountain.

Northeast India has its uniqueness and there are a lot of different things that you can try there from trying their cuisines to going to India’s first-ever skywalk. It has various glaciers and lakes which are worth paying a visit to. Not just sightseeing but you can also do various adventures that will make your adrenaline rush if you are a thrill-loving person. You can also have a chance to look at the lifestyle of the native people in the northeast which is unique in its way. Northeastern is also famous for its various wildlife sanctuaries and national parks. In short, the northeast is the perfect place if you wanna enjoy yourself with your family or alone and you should try all of the things listed above.
