Top 10 national parks to visit in India

National parks can be great places to visit during the holiday season. Since it has a variety of flora and fauna species and has natural beauty and nowadays various other adventures like jungle safari, river rafting, bird watching, tiger sightseeing, and many others. India has various national parks that are located in different parts of the country. India is famous for its rich biodiversity in such national parks and that’s why India is the best place to visit for wildlife tourism.  India has more than 100 national parks, however, in this blog we only mentioned the top of them. 

  1.  Kaziranga National Park

It is located in the state of Assam. Kaziranga is home to the largest population of one-horned rhinos and is one of the finest national parks in the world. Kaziranga is famous for saving the one-horned rhino from the verge of extinction. 

The park also has several other endangered species including the Gangetic dolphin,  Asian elephants, Bengal tigers, sloth bears, and many migratory birds. A trip to Kaziranga is a must for all wildlife lovers. The park was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO In the year 1985. 

Kaziranga Park is usually closed from 01 May to 31 Oct every year for visitors and November to April is the best time to visit Kaziranga National Park.

2.  Nagarhole National Park

Nagarahole also known as Rajeev Gandhi national park is one of the major hubs of conservation under Project Tiger and Project Elephant. Nagarhole is Karnataka’s leading wildlife getaway and an important national park. It is bounded by the Kabini River. Maharajah of Mysore used to hunt there. It was declared a tiger reserve in 1999. This region is home to the largest concentration of Asiatic elephants in the world. This national park consists of leopards, Tigers, and sloth bears. It comprises some amazing landscapes which make it the best place to visit for nature lovers. It is one of India’s leading Tiger Reserves.

3.  Ranthambhore National Park

Ranthambhore is one of the most famous national parks in India.  Located in the vicinity of the Aravali hills and Vindhya plateau, it spreads over 1334 sq km with 392 sq km of the national park. Ranthambhore National Park is home to approximately 45 Bengal tigers and is located near Delhi. Tigers, caracal,  striped hyenas, sloth bears, Indian gazelle, golden jackal, honey badger,  pangolin,  and more. It is a major attraction for tiger lovers because of the popular tiger living in this forest park and that’s what makes it the perfect place for a jungle safari.

4. Kanha National Park

Located in Madhya Pradesh Kanha national park is the largest national park in Central India with a core zone of 363 square miles. It has about 105 Bengal tigers, it’s a great place to spot tigers. Along with tigers, the park has also leopards, sloth bears, sambar, and barasingha deer. In order to save the barasingha from extinction the park started its own breeding program which later proved to be a great success.  The park  is also famous for its holistic approach for the conservation of tigers. It has variety of flora and fauna and is best know for its infamous Sal forests.

5. Pench National Park, Madhya Pradesh

Pench national park is located in the south of Madhya Pradesh and is named after a river that runs through it. The place is famous for its beauty, thick vegetation, and rich habitat. This park is one of the bests when it comes to river rafting. You can also see various tigers and many other animals during sightseeing. During sunsets, you can also do some bird watching. This park is associated with “The jungle book” by Rudyard Kipling. The major tourist attractions include jungle walk, jungle safari, trekking, and river rafting

6.Bandhavgarh National Park, Madhya Pradesh

Bandhavgarh has the highest concentration of tigers and elephants compared to any park in India and is located in Madhya Pradesh and 37  different species of mammals, 107 different species of birds, and much more. It was converted from a hunting ground for maharajas to a national park. It has the highest density of royal Bengal tigers in the world.  It has various naturally occurring wildlife species. Bandhavgarh is famous for its hub of white tigers. The park is rich in biodiversity and is famous for its bengal tigers all across the world.

7. Bandipur National Park, Karnataka

Bandipur national park is one of the most famous national parks in south India. It has less number of tigers compared to other national parks in India and these tigers are rarely sighted. The park is 870 km and is located between Ooty and Mysore. It is also part of the Nilgiri biosphere reserve. It was converted from the hunting ground of Maharajas of Mysore to a national park. You can easily see deer and monkeys while doing a jungle safari. This park was brought under the project tiger in 1973. It is one of the first nine tiger reserves in the country.

8. Great Himalayan National Park, Himachal Pradesh

Great Himalayan National Park is situated in the state of Himachal Pradesh and has four valleys. covers more than 900 square kilometers. It covers more than 900 square kilometers and is even declared a world heritage site in 2014 by UNESCO. The place is perfect for a trek and that is why it attracts many adventure lovers. It is located in a remote area. People like a take a ride deep inside the core area. The most special thing about this park is that it has 350 different species of flora and fauna and some of them are even endangered. 

9. Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand

Corbet’s national park was India’s first-ever national park and was established in 1936. Tigers are rarely sighted in the ark however other animals like elephants are easily visible during jungle safaris.  The park is very large in size and has five zones in total. One of the zones named Jhirna is open during the whole year and the other park closes during the monsoon. The park was established by tiger hunter Jim Corbett.

10. Satpura National Park, Madhya Pradesh

It is one of the top national parks of Madhya Pradesh. It is located in a hilly area that has various waterfalls and beautiful scenery. The mesmerizing location is one of the major tourist attractions. However, tigers are rarely visible in the park. Some activities that can be done inside the park are inside the park include night safaris, jeep safaris, and cycling. You can go to this park at any time of the year and if you are a nature lover this park is the perfect destination for you. 

India has a variety of national parks from marine to desert and desert to forest. All of these national parks are worth paying a visit to. There are a total of 104 national parks but these are some of the top national parks. Every park has its specialty and is unique in its way for eg Kaziranga national park is famous for saving rhinoceros from extinction and is declared by UNESCO a world heritage site and Nagarhole national park is known for its project tiger and project elephant and Satpura national park is more famous for its mesmerizing waterfalls and hills than its animals.
